Written Studies

When the pandemic began early in 2020, prisons were put under very tight restrictions, meaning that much of our usual work was paused. Unable to visit prisons himself at that time, one of our team, Nigel, wrote an Easter message for one of his regular Bible study groups.

The response from the men was so positive, with them asking when the next one would be coming out, that he began to write a message to be sent into prisons each week.

“Thank you for the Daylight sheets. I love to get them. I always read them a few times; they help keep me going. I pass them on to other people, not just in prison but to my family and friends outside”.

“The lads much appreciate these resources.”

When Nigel returned to his in-prison ministry later that year, others from our office team took up writing these, with both prisoners and prison chaplains letting us know how much they appreciated receiving them during the times of lockdown.

Prisoners were keen to keep receiving these after restrictions lifted, and this has now grown into a regular part of Daylight’s ministry, with messages produced fortnightly, and uploaded to a national resource folder for prison chaplains. We have been encouraged by how widely these are distributed, reaching many prisoners who would not normally come along to Sunday services, Bible studies, or other activities.

The messages cover a variety of topics; sometimes a series looking at the life of Bible characters such as Joseph, Ruth, and Moses, at other times, sharing the stories of well-known Christians from the past, or considering seasonal topics at times like Easter and Christmas.
